There are many things to take into consideration when selecting cameras for your CCTV system. You can choose between colour and monochrome cameras, public or covert. You may need to consider camera lighting, or if you want continuous or event triggered recording. Another consideration is the accessibilty of the CCTV camera as you may need to use a microwave transmission system.

Skynet Security CCTV - Colour Cameras

Colour Cameras generally provide greater details than Monochrome (B&W) CCTV cameras and are ideal for indoor use where daylight or adequate camera lighting is available. However CCTV Colour Cameras can work well in flood lit "white" light outdoor environments. Some CCTV colour cameras now available can differentiate between day and night, changing from colour during the day to Monochrome during the night, Monochrome working better in low light conditions.

Monochrome CCTV Cameras are generally used outside where they will operate better at night, or in low light conditions. Infrared Lighting can be incorporated with the CCTV camera effectively letting them see in the dark.

Colour and monochrome CCTV Monitors of various sizes are available offering higher definition than conventional televisions. CCTV Monitors are used to view live or recorded camera footage.

Skynet Security CCTV - MultiPlexers

A multiplexer is a piece of equipment that works in conjunction with a time lapse VCR (Video Recorder), it collects the pictures from a number of CCTV cameras and allows them to be recorded on one video cassette tape all at the same time, giving you no loss or skip of individual cameras. Effectively you have all CCTV cameras recording at all times.

Skynet Security CCTV - Time Lapse VCRs

The most common systems use an analogue 24-hour time-lapse video recorder, which records 24 hours of CCTV camera footage on a 3-hour videocassette tape. Time Lapse recorders up to 960 hours recording are available as are S-VHS (broadcast Quality) machines, which offer better quality on playback.

Features of every machine include time and date stamp, alarm recording, event trigger recording, and auto tape stop/repeat recording.
